YOU’VE MISSED THE LIBRARY, AND WE’VE MISSED YOU, TOO!

It’s our pleasure to announce that browsing by appointment is now available at the Jackson/Hinds Library System. During these appointments, you can see what your local library has on the shelves and check out materials. Just call your local library to make an appointment.

Thanks for all the patience and support you’ve shown towards the library since the beginning of the pandemic. We’re very much looking forward to seeing you soon!

Please read our Frequently Asked Questions.

Do I need to be a Jackson/Hinds Library System cardholder to use this service?

Yes, at this time, in-person browsing is limited to Jackson/Hinds Library System cardholders and eligible patrons applying for library cards.

How do I sign up for an appointment?

Call the front desk of the library and make an appointment for up to a week ahead! You can also knock on the front door of any library and make an appointment. Walk-in appointments are accepted if there are any spaces available.

Appointments last for 30 minutes. They begin when the library opens and follows the library’s open hours. For example: 9:00 – 9:30, 9:30-10:00, 10:00-10:30, etc.

What safety precautions should I take when I visit the library?

We ask that all customers use hand sanitizer as they enter and as they leave the building. Hand sanitizer is provided to all of our patrons upon entry and exit. Also, you must wear a mask or properly-placed facial covering at all times, and maintain six feet of distance from others whenever possible.

What if I’m late to my appointment?

Your appointment begins when you arrive, but it still ends at the prescribed time. For example, if you arrive at 1:15 p.m. for a 1:00 p.m. appointment, you will only have until 1:30 p.m. to finish browsing and checking out your materials.
