Floyd Council, MLIS

Welcome to the Jackson/Hinds Library System!

Greetings Everyone,

I am Floyd Council, Executive Director of the Jackson Hinds Library System.  As an American Library Association Spectrum Diversity Scholar and 21st Century Library Leader, I am honored to  serve here at home in Mississippi, Jackson, and Hinds County. Whether you live in one of the diverse urban neighborhoods in downtown Jackson, or in one of the many charming towns in greater Hinds County, I invite you to stop in at one of our 14 conveniently located library branches along your way. Our library system strives to meet the needs of the communities we serve with an emphasis on convenience, 21st century technology and the best of traditional library services. Whether you are looking for the latest bestseller, a public access computer, a comfortable spot to access our high-speed wireless or just a quiet place to read or study, our local library branches have much to offer to you.  At Jackson Hinds Library System, our “amazing staff “is prepared to offer “heart and soul” library service at the speed of every day life in the City of Jackson and Hinds County.

Greetings Everyone

In my capacity as Deputy Director, I serve as the Head of Public Service with 14 direct report managers under my supportive leadership while reporting to the Executive Director.  I am active in the MLA. I serve as the official liaison to all system-wide friends of the library groups.  I formerly served at the Pearl Library (Central Mississippi Regional Library System) and gathered six years of branch management experience. “I am excited about learning, growing, and leading as we design new library service in Hinds County.”

I received my bachelor’s degree in communication from the University of Alabama and a master’s in library science from the University of Southern Mississippi.
