Circulation Assistant | ANY LOCATION (in Jackson)

POSITION: CIRCULATION ASSISTANT

LOCATION: A N Y   L O C A T I O N (in Jackson)

REPORTS TO: Branch Manager

QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED (Some College Desired)

Position requires prior comparable work experience and computer skills; ability to effectively work with library patrons and staff; basic knowledge of library use and procedures preferred.  Work requires standing for extended periods of time, stooping, and bending.

DUTIES: Work involves responsibility for routine circulation and clerical functions using automated circulation system.  Performs branch circulation duties including charging books in and out, data inputting, and answering telephones; providing assistance to patrons with routine informational services.  Performs other duties as assigned by the Branch Manager.

HOURS: Scheduled within the library’s hours of operation.                    

COMPENSATION: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience; excellent benefits package including health, dental, vision, short-term disability and life insurance; State of Mississippi retirement plan.

Custodian

POSITION: CUSTODIAN

LOCATION: Administration

REPORTS TO: Director of Finance

QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED 

This is a full-time position. It requires keeping buildings clean and in an orderly condition. Must have a valid driver’s license and must be insurable. The successful candidate must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

DUTIES: Some of the duties include but are not limited to: sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming hallways, stairs, and office space; emptying trash and garbage containers; notifying management concerning the need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment; cleaning debris from sidewalks and parking lots; prepping and painting on an as needed basis walls and other areas; moving and delivering items such as tables and chairs to and from branches. Outside duties include but are not limited to: maintenance work; performing lawn maintenance; trimming shrubbery, and cleaning drains. Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

HOURS: 40 hours per week.

Maintenance Technician

POSITION: MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

LOCATION: Administration

REPORTS TO: Director of Finance

QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED is required. Must have three to six months of related experience and/or training in general building maintenance; experience in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and carpentry work (including painting interior and exterior walls and trim); must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with staff; must be able to frequently handle materials and equipment in excess of 50 pounds and occasionally lift over 100 pounds. This position requires frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling and bending and standing for extended periods of time; must hold valid driver’s license, be insurable and have a good driving record.

DUTIES: Performs general building and lawn maintenance throughout the 14 branches of the Library System; participates in the installation, maintenance and repair of facilities, lawns and landscaping buildings, Library System vehicles and fixtures; must act as backup Courier and provide custodial services on a limited basis; required to keep records on time spent, supplies used and completed work tasks. Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

HOURS: 40 hours per week. Required to be on call nights and weekends.
