Professional Assistant (Quisenberry Library)
Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Branch Manager/Branch Librarian, the professional assistant aids in:
- Overseeing the day-to-day operations of a public library branch. This includes:
- Participating in the planning, implementing, and evaluating of the branch’s services and programs
- Assisting patrons in use of library services in accordance with established library policies and procedures.
- Aid in the circulation of materials such as charging and discharging library materials
- Engages in community outreach activities in relation to the needs of the community
- In the absence of the Branch Manager/Branch Librarian, the professional assistant assumes general management responsibilities for the branch.
Hours
This is a full-time (40 hours weekly) position. The scheduled is based on the operational needs of the branch within the library’s hours of operation.
Salary
The salary is $30,000 annually with a full benefits package that includes health and life insurance, vision and dental insurance, and membership in the Mississippi Public Employees’ Retirement System.

- Assisting patrons with using the computers, copier, and fax machine.
- Placing materials on hold.
- Helping patrons find the information they seek.
- Explaining and implementing library policies and procedures.
- Additional duties may include aiding with community outreach and promoting library programs.

This is a full-time (40 hours weekly) position scheduled based on the operational needs of the branch and library system.
Salary and Benefits
The salary is $26,000 annually with a full benefits package that includes health and life insurance, vision and dental insurance, and membership in the Mississippi Public Employees’ Retirement System.
