The Jackson/Hinds Library System announces the resignation of our Executive Director, Mr. Floyd Council. Mr. Council assumed the role of Executive Director in March 2022 after a career of library service at leading library systems around the country, including Chicago, St. Louis, and Washington, D.C. Mr. Council took over leadership of the library system at an incredibly challenging time wherein the library system faced significant facilities challenges and funding cuts.

Today, the library system has made great strides towards reestablishing a firm foundation, and it is poised to launch a new five-year strategic plan for ushering in thriving, vibrant library service for Jackson and Hinds County. Mr. Council leaves JHLS in a much better position than he found it. We are grateful for his hard work, and we wish him the best on his future endeavors.

The Board of Trustees will be launching a nationwide search for a new Executive Director immediately.
