Jackson Hinds Library System Summer Reading 2023, “All Together Now”

JACKSON, MS, June 5, 2023 –Jackson Hinds Library System Summer Reading 2023, “All Together Now.”

The Jackson Hinds Library System invites patrons of all ages to enjoy a wonderful summer experience with more than 150 summer programs, special activities, and events during the six-week program. Summer Reading will run from June 5, 2023 until July 14, 2023.  The summer reading programs are in addition to the regular programming that occurs daily at our library branches. All summer reading activities are free and open to the public at all of our 14 library locations in the City of Jackson and Hinds County.

The national summer reading theme adopted by the Collaborative Summer Library Program is “All together now” and the Jackson/Hinds Library System encourages reading to adults and kids by providing prizes and exciting activities to keep everyone learning and entertained throughout the summer “We are excited about Summer reading 2023 and the future of the Jackson Hinds Library System,” said Executive Director, Floyd Council.

We will celebrate National Summer Learning Week from July 10th thru 14 and encourage parents and teachers to use local and national resources at the library and at home.  Research has consistently shown that summer reading programs are supportive to school aged children and teens for the prevention of summer learning loss, also known as summer learning slide. All patrons can learn and explore the world with use of our online resources 24/7 at jhlibrary.org.  This year we will reintroduce a summer feeding program at our Medgar Evers and Margaret Walker Alexander libraries. We will also launch a new summer foods program with a new Save the Children’s $23K grant.  JHLS is also launching a new program to support children in Hinds County with learning disabilities thanks to a $20K grant from the American Library Association.  Jackson Hinds Library System and Delta State University were the only two organizations in the State of Mississippi to be awarded this wonderful grant. Finally, this summer we will continue to move forward with our S.T.R.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.) plan of service at all library locations thanks two recent $10k Library Services & Technology Act Grants from the Mississippi Library Commission, as supported by the Institute of Museums & Library Services.   The Jackson Hinds Library System is growing to the next level with a strategic focus on community, education, and digital life.
