It is the legend of a Canadian surgeon with an idea, a lab assistant who won a coin toss, and the discovery the two of them made in the summer of 1921. That discovery would be nothing of course if it were not for the skeptical academic that let them use his laboratory, and the humble biochemist who transformed their discovery into a medical miracle.
