Enjoy two short videos explaining the history of Juneteenth for kids and a Juneteenth Read Aloud, read by Jasmyn Cornell.
Hosted by Medgar Evers Library.
Each June we celebrate the end of slavery in the United States in 1865. Across the country, family and friends gather to celebrate and learn more about the history and experience of African Americans before and after slavery.
On June 19, 1865—nearly two years after the Civil War ended—enslaved people in Texas learned they were free. Now, Juneteenth is considered a second Independence Day because it celebrates the day ALL Americans became free! Learn more at https://brnpop.co/3bb6Ygi.
