On February 24, 2020, Executive Director Patty Furr accepted the Jane Smith Literacy Award from the Mississippi Library Commission on behalf of the Jackson Hinds Library System for the Our Reading Family program.  Furr is pictured above with Dave Miller, Ava Pomerantz and Rachel Glazer of the Institute of Southern Jewish Life, who help run the program that is in its seventh cohort in our library system.

The original program grew out of a $3500 LSTA grant for the Our Reading Family program. It has now been entered in the Library of Congress Literacy Award program. We hope it wins there, too!

JHLS received a check for $150, which will be used to buy books for the Our Reading Family program, which will begin in the spring at Richard Wright Library. Sessions have been successfully held at Medgar Evers Library.
