The Jackson Hinds Library System has a new Fine-Free Card that can limit the amount of out-of-pocket expenses that your family might have compared to a regular child library card.

  1. Parents, guardians and/or teachers should fill out the Fine-Free Kid’s Card application for children aged 5-11, and bring it to a library branch offering the Fine-Free Kid’s Card option.
  2. The child must be a resident of Hinds County full-time to be eligible to enroll for a Fine-Free Kid’s Card.
  3. The card must be presented in order for the child to use the card, and the card must be presented to participate in library programming.

Kids can checkout up to 2 books each visit, as long as the books borrowed are returned within three weeks.

Kids can choose from the following sections:

  • Easy Picture Books
  • Easy Readers
  • Juvenile Fiction
  • Juvenile Non-Fiction

What Happens Next?

The books will be due back to the library in three weeks. If the 2 books are not returned in three weeks, the card will be frozen and the child will not be able to check out any books until the 2 books are returned.

Lost Book? What Do I Do?

The card will not accumulate any overdue fees at any time. However, if books are permanently lost, a lost book fee must be paid in order to reactivate the child’s account.

“I love this new card because I don’t have to pay overdue fees anymore!” – Parent of Fine-Free Kid’s Card Holder

“The new kids cards are a great resource for any child who wishes to enjoy the library system with no overdue fees.” – Patty Furr, Executive Director
